Student Visa…

July 31st, 2007 by Katrina Cole

I finally sent my student visa application to the British Consulate in L.A. today. I leave in 6 weeks and am a bit nervous about being approved and having my passport returned. They make you send your passport in with the application which freaks me out some. There is a sense of freedom that comes with having one and I’m feeling severed from it. I blame Margaret Atwoods “Handmaids Tale” for that bit of psychosis.  Anyway, I waited this long because they want you to send 3 months of bank statements to prove you can support yourself while you are there. I have a letter from my school stating that my tuition, room and board have already been paid for however, my bank statements don’t show a very high balance at the end of every month. I was hoping to have a bit more in there but…I think I eat out too much. :-) The consulate will probably see my spending habits and welcome me as a loose pocketed American. WoooHooo!! Come on over!!

Everything will turn out ok though, either way I’ll be where I am supposed to be come September 19th. The UK Visa application web site said it takes about 10 days to process my application. Nothing I can do now so, I should really just relax and float on forward. All is as it should be, I will follow the path of least resistance and come out a happier human.

Juls has been getting all anxious about my departure also. Fits of tears. I don’t really know what to say or do. I feel a little selfish for pursuing my studies abroad and leaving her to fend for herself. I hope our friends check in on her regularly. More importantly though, I hope she reaches out to them.
