Slackin’ on the postin’…

Thursday, May 29th, 2008

Ok, so sorry I’ve been a slacker on my posts lately. My last few days in London were totally nutz. I had many things I needed to do and see one last time before I left. I dragged Juls around downtown and made her look at all the touristy things, cuz you HAVE to see Westminster Palace, the London Eye and Big Ben…you just have to. We also went to the National Gallery and I showed her some of my favorite paintings, ate Korean food in China town and then Juls skated with the London Rollergirls. She was impressed and said they were hard core. I guess skating on a gymnasium floor is a lot different than the $15,000 track she is used to. At one point Rex hit her so hard she slid 15 feet sideways and into the wall next to me. Ouch! I would have gotten a picture of it too but my lens was too slow. It was really cool to see Juls skate with them, my two worlds colliding….literally. It was also kinda sad because it meant I was leaving. She had come to bring me back home. It was hard to say goodbye. I sure wish I had had more time to spend with them.

We left for home the next day, which was filled with tears too. It was hard saying goodbye to my host family whom I had grown very close with these past 8 months. They were fun and sweet and quirky. Just my kind of people. :-) So, I’m back now and kind of in hiding. I feel really odd being here. I don’t really want to talk with anyone yet because I don’t know what to say when they ask “How was it?”. That’s such a huge question. I think I need to digest the whole experience for a bit.

Back from Paris…

Monday, May 19th, 2008

Paris was wonderful, we spent our days riding around town on bikes, seeing art, dead bodies, famous buildings and eating lots of yummy food. Our last night there we went to a little bar in the Opera district and met some people who then took us to a better bar across town. It was a crazy night and I took lots of video of masses of women dancing a little too close to Juls. She seemed to be the freshest piece of meat that night. ;-)

We stayed with Elodie of course. I have become very close to her this year. I don’t know what I would have done without her sometimes. She’s been a great friend. Lisa’s girlfriend Els who is Belgian, said that you never really know someone until you can communicate with them in their native language. I should learn French so I can tell her to stop hitting on my girlfriend in a way she will understand. Cheeky monkey.

I am finally going to take Juls into downtown London today. Her feet are killing her and she was really sick last night so I don’t know how long of a day it will be. But she doesn’t seem to want to puke this morning so, I may just make her feet suffer a bit today. I think this might be my last day downtown. Makes me want to cry if I think about it too much. I’ll miss this city.

We’re going to have curry with my host family tonight. I might cry then too.

Here’s some Paris pix:
